May 17th Friday
Cloudy in the morning but cleared off after dinner. Got a bath(?) and went in the town of Fredericksburg. Saw a great many of our wounded. The only ___ they got is ___ the ___ commission. After dinner was ordered to the front with two days rations. Went out on the Spotsylvania court house road about twelve miles. Got to the brigade just ___ the ___ about eight oclock. Crossed the river near a rebel leader’s house. Our troops moved before I got through issuing. The road is so full of troops and train(?) we cannot get through. Have to wait until morning.
