May 25th Monday
Sight [sic] rain during last night cloudy but no rain during the day Issued five days rations today felt rather tired and homesick today. got two letters one from Mother and one from uncle Sam. both wrote before i went home
26th Tuesday
Cloudy but no rain orders for whiskey are approved before nine o’clock AM and all business is done between 8 AM and 4 PM. Yesterday the Staff officers tents was removed to nearer the Generals tent. a new flag pole was put up and to day a white flag with a red cross [illegible] was run up. the band playing national tunes
