23rd Thursday
Commenced raining during last night and continued untill [sic] late this afternoon rained hard Later was light today Govenor [sic] Ranker of New Jersey arrived to day accompanied by Quartermaster General Lewis Parker. Adjutant General Robert F. Hockton and several others. When they arrived the band played (hail to the chief) and several other tunes. The pontoons have been moved by our division train and are now within one mile of the rappahannock, about one mile below where we crossed before (Dec 12th 1862)
