5th Thursday
Cold but clear today there was a balloon up today it was between us and the Rappahannock. It was so near that the rope that held it could be plainly seen
6th Friday
Slight rain today. The fifteenth went out on picket this morning. Col Sam Fowler has resigned so also has Major Brown Capt Sturgis of Gen Torbert’s staff as resigned and is going to start home in the morning. Capt Fitts started home this morning on leave of absence for fifteen days
