we was called up and had reville [sic] at 5 AM about eight we started down the steep bank to the edge of the river soon after we got there we crossed on a pontoon bridge as we went over the brigade band played Dixie. the river is pretty deep and about one hundred and fifty yards wide. after we got across we filed right along the bank of the river and formed in line of battle in a large field and an orchard here we waited untill [sic] the cavelry [sic] went ahead and reconnoitered. we laid in line untill [sic] about three PM when we fell in an marched ahead – a brass battery that was formed in front of us and soon after we passed them we came to a gully about twenty five or
