In the afternoon I took two wagons and went to the brigade and issued one days of bacon Hard bread coffee sugar – two wagons went to the station. They say that everything is moved from there and the buildings are being torn down. Just at night there came an order from brigade headquarters for all of the provost guard to report there. They have been with the wagons all the times[?] Our Commissary guards belong to them and they had to go too. About four PM I went in to Fairfax. It has been a very nice place at one time</text>

<text>(June 25th Thursday) but it is an awful looking place now. There is one or two nice places. I was in the church and the floor was all taken up and There had been horses stabled in it the windows were all broken and the weather boards torn off and it was just so with all of the houses. There is a salve pen here which was quite a curiosity. it is something like our jails only not so secure. About dusk very sharp cannonading commenced. It appeared to be near Fairfax Station. It continued untill [sic] late in the night. We have eventhing [sic] packed in the wagons ready to start a moments notice. We expect to leave before morning a very large supply and ammunitions train is going towards chain bridge.</text>
