When near Belle Plain landing our train was headed off by a large train of the reserve artillery. did not get started again untill [sic] daylight in the morning. Crossed the potomac creek near the high bridge. the hospitals that used to be there are all removed. It is said that the sick and wounded are gone to Washington. We got to Stafford Court house about two o’clock PM did not stop at the court house but passed through and parked about a mile and a half from there in a valley on the north side of a small stream said to be the headquarters of the aquia creek. When we was near the court house there was a drove of nearly two thousand condemned horses and mules passed us there was some very nice ones. It was fun to see the guards and men that was with the wagons catching and riding them. I caught one it is a large dark bay horse one of his fore legs is sore but he is (Sunday Continued) not lame. Only parked about one hour. Just long enough for the horses to eat this is the first time that the horses have been fed since we started. Generals Hooker Butterfield and Patrick passed us today. After the train started we went on untill [sic] about eight o’clock when we was ordered to park. Got our supper.
