              <text>March 25 Saturday &lt;br /&gt;About two o'clock firing commenced on our right near Fort Hell. The rebels had attacked and broken our line. They occupied nearly one mile of it. But was finnally driven back with great loss. Our division went down to help the 9th Corps but was not engaged. They got back to camp about one o'clock when firing commenced on the left near Fort Fisher. So our division had to march up there there has been heavy fighting all day. The rebels getting the worst of it. We have captured about three thousand prisoners and taken two lines of workers 1n front of the 3rd Div 6' corps. Our div . took the first line we loaded all of our wagons ( 40) and packed up everything ready to move at a moments notice. President Lincoln and lady Genl Grant and lady, Genl Meade and several other distinguished persons passed up the road and witnessed the fight on the left (9 o'clock p.m.) Genl Wheaton has sent in word that himself and staff will be here to stay all night and it is said that the division will come back to their old camps before morning. Four months more to stay in the service of the United States .</text>

              <text>March 25 Saturday &lt;br /&gt;About two o'clock firing commenced on our right near Fort Hell. The rebels had attacked and broken our line. They occupied nearly one mile of it. But was finnally driven back with great loss. Our division went down to help the 9th Corps but was not engaged. They got back to camp about one o'clock when firing commenced on the left near Fort Fisher. So our division had to march up there there has been heavy fighting all day. The rebels getting the worst of it. We have captured about three thousand prisoners and taken two lines of workers 1n front of the 3rd Div 6' corps. Our div . took the first line we loaded all of our wagons ( 40) and packed up everything ready to move at a moments notice. President Lincoln and lady Genl Grant and lady, Genl Meade and several other distinguished persons passed up the road and witnessed the fight on the left (9 o'clock p.m.) Genl Wheaton has sent in word that himself and staff will be here to stay all night and it is said that the division will come back to their old camps before morning. Four months more to stay in the service of the United States .</text>
