July 21st Thursday
About thirty of us made a charge through Leesburg at four oclock this morning. Did not find the enemy. The train did not get in until about six. Passed on through the town on the Leesburg and Alexandria turnpike. Parked on the bank of Goose Creek. Until three oclock PM when we cross the stream and parked for the night. Drew a days rations from the third division and issued them. The brigade did not get in until after seven oclock. Went about three miles out on the pike after hay for my horse.
